About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Accounts Payable & Payroll Manager to lead and scale our AP and payroll functions within a fast-paced, client-facing outsourced accounting environment. This role is responsible for ensuring consistent, high-quality client delivery while building efficient, scalable processes and developing a strong, accountable team.

The ideal candidate is both hands-on and strategic—someone who can manage day-to-day execution while continuously improving workflows, technology, and service quality as the business grows.

Key Responsibilities

Department Leadership & Client Delivery

• Own and lead the Accounts Payable and Payroll departments to ensure accurate, timely, and consistent client service.

• Maintain clear visibility into all client workstreams, ensuring deadlines are met, company policies are followed, and client satisfaction remains high.

• Empower team members to fully own their deliverables while maintaining accountability and oversight.

Team Management & Development

• Lead, coach, and develop a team by balancing workloads, running effective team meetings, providing performance feedback, and preventing burnout.

• Manage staffing and coverage by allocating and reassigning clients based on capacity and business needs.

• Interview, select, onboard, train, and develop team members to improve quality, consistency, and independence over time.

• Train team members on AP and payroll workflows, ensuring clarity, confidence, and consistency across the department.


Process Improvement & Operations

• Continuously evaluate and improve AP and payroll workflows, controls, templates, and procedures.

• Identify recurring issues and implement durable, scalable solutions.

• Independently assess where changes are needed across processes, staffing, communication, and client experience—and drive improvements through to completion.

• Improve the use of technology to enhance efficiency and ensure services evolve alongside client needs.

Payroll Oversight & Expertise

• Take ownership of onboarding new payroll clients end-to-end, ensuring setups are complete, accurate, and aligned with internal standards and client expectations.

• Navigate varying state requirements and client-specific payroll processes.

• Partner closely with the accounting department to resolve discrepancies efficiently and ensure clean downstream work.

Collaboration & Communication

• Build strong working relationships with clients.

• Be receptive to direction while confidently guiding and influencing others in a collaborative, thoughtful manner.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

• 3+ years of hands-on experience across Accounts Payable, accounting, and payroll processing, including strong familiarity with payroll onboarding.

• Demonstrated ability to lead, train, or mentor others while maintaining accountability and quality.

• Experience working in a fast-paced, multi-client environment with competing deadlines and shifting priorities.
