Director of Operations
Full Time or 3/4 time work available

Compensation: $55,000 – $75,000
Congregation B’nai Israel, located in Manalapan, NJ, seeks a Director of Operations to join our leadership team. This role plays a central part in advancing our mission to build a vibrant center of Jewish community life.
The Director will work closely with the Rabbi, staff, and volunteers to support congregational growth and ensure a welcoming, well-run synagogue environment.
This role serves as a bridge between vision and execution—ensuring that synagogue initiatives, programs, and systems are carried out with excellence and consistency.
The Director leads the day-to-day operations of the synagogue, ensuring that people, programs, and systems function effectively with excellence and consistency. The successful candidate will anticipate needs, build relationships, and drive solutions with strong follow-through.
This position reports to the Rabbi.
Responsibility Areas Include:
1. Non-Profit Management, Membership & Events
- Serve as a welcoming point of contact through the synagogue office and daily operations
- Demonstrate strong customer service and communication, creating a warm and responsive synagogue experience
- Partner with the Rabbi and lay leadership to support membership growth, retention, and engagement
- Support integration of newer and less-connected members and prospects
- Assist with outreach and recruitment for programs and events
- Execute synagogue programs with attention to detail, ensuring a high-quality experience
- Coordinate event logistics, including staffing, vendors, and setup with clear organization and follow through
- Be present at major programs and events as a point person to ensure smooth execution
- Evaluate programs post-event to strengthen future execution
2. Fundraising & Annual Campaign
- Help develop systems that increase participation in giving
- Work with the Rabbi and Board to support the annual campaign
- Facilitate fundraising initiatives (Kol Nidrei Appeal, Mishloach Manot, and others)
- Solicit sponsorships and donations for programs and Kiddushim
- Engage and thank donors, building lasting relationships
- Support fundraising administration, including pledge tracking and follow-up
3. PR & Communications
- Promote programs across email, WhatsApp, social media, and other platforms
- Support and enhance social media presence, including ad boosting where appropriate
- Identify and pursue PR opportunities (e.g., The Jewish Link)
- Manage synagogue communications across digital and onsite channels, including signage, website updates, and publications such as The Voice
- Oversee development of the synagogue database to support communication and engagement
4. Operations & Administration
- Oversee day-to-day synagogue operations with excellence, organization, and follow-through
- Provide effective office management and support
- Set clear expectations and priorities across staff and volunteers, ensuring alignment and accountability
- Communicate timely and effectively with staff to ensure coordination, clarity, and follow-through
- Ensure a warm, welcoming, and professional front-facing experience
- Execute administrative functions, including communications, scheduling, database management, and vendor coordination
- Oversee building needs, office inventory, and vendor relationships
- Facilitate staff meetings and support project management
- Help hire and supervise part-time staff or outsourced support
- Delegate and coordinate work across staff and volunteers to ensure effective execution

Qualifications:
- 3+ years of relevant experience in business or non-profit settings (or comparable experience)
- BA or BS from an accredited college or university
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Experience with social media platforms
- Familiarity with cloud-based databases (such as ShulCloud)
- Experience managing projects to successful, on-time completion
