Location: Brooklyn, NY
Salary: $180000–$190000/year
Employment: Full-Time, On-site
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Advocate for clients within the special education system to ensure they receive all services mandated under federal and state law.
- Represent families in administrative hearings, mediations, and due process proceedings.
- Conduct legal research and prepare motions, briefs, complaints, and settlement agreements.
- Review, analyze, and advise on Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and related documentation.
- Collaborate with educators, therapists, evaluators, and other professionals to support comprehensive student service plans.
- Maintain accurate case records and ensure compliance with all procedural timelines and legal requirements.
- Stay current on federal and New York State special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, families, and community stakeholders.
Requirements:
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Active admission to practice law in New York.
- Demonstrated experience in special education law and student advocacy.
- Strong legal writing, research, and courtroom advocacy skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Exceptional analytical skills and strong attention to detail.
- Commitment to protecting the educational rights of students with disabilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in nonprofit, legal aid, or education-focused legal environments.
- Experience handling due process hearings independently.
