Job Description

Location: Brooklyn, NY

Salary: $180000–$190000/year

Employment: Full-Time, On-site

Roles & Responsibilities:

  1. Advocate for clients within the special education system to ensure they receive all services mandated under federal and state law.
  2. Represent families in administrative hearings, mediations, and due process proceedings.
  3. Conduct legal research and prepare motions, briefs, complaints, and settlement agreements.
  4. Review, analyze, and advise on Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and related documentation.
  5. Collaborate with educators, therapists, evaluators, and other professionals to support comprehensive student service plans.
  6. Maintain accurate case records and ensure compliance with all procedural timelines and legal requirements.
  7. Stay current on federal and New York State special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
  8. Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, families, and community stakeholders.

Requirements:

  1. Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  2. Active admission to practice law in New York.
  3. Demonstrated experience in special education law and student advocacy.
  4. Strong legal writing, research, and courtroom advocacy skills.
  5. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  6. Exceptional analytical skills and strong attention to detail.
  7. Commitment to protecting the educational rights of students with disabilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Prior experience in nonprofit, legal aid, or education-focused legal environments.
  2. Experience handling due process hearings independently.
