JOB TITLE: 2’s Head Teacher

DESCRIPTION OF PARK AVENUE SYNAGOGUE: Park Avenue Synagogue (PAS) is one of the largest congregations in North America. Our thriving Adult Programming, Early Childhood Center, Congregational School, Youth, and Young Family Education departments provide high-quality and inclusive Jewish educational, social, and worship opportunities to members and the community at large.

DESCRIPTION OF JOB: We are seeking a Head Teacher to be employed in the Synagogue’s Young Family Education department for the 2026-2027 school year for our 2s separation program. You must implement a developmentally appropriate and progressive curriculum, balanced in play and educator-directed activities. You will work in a team of three educators which includes two Assistant Teachers. This position will report directly to the Director of Young Family Education. This position is part-time: M-Th 9:00 AM-12:00 PM. If you are passionate about education, this may be the role for you!

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Modeling a positive, respectful attitude towards your position, students, and families.
  • Manage a team of educators in achieving the Educational Philosophy of the school.
  • Oversee the collaborative development of lesson plans across all curricular areas, including social skills, language, sensory experiences, dramatic play, cooking, music and movement, block building, and art.
  • Work together with the team to separate the children and transition the class to become drop-off.
  • Implement effective classroom management techniques.
  • Supervise the writing and distribution of class newsletters.
  • Foster a culture of ongoing, clear, and consistent engagement with parents.
  • Mentor the classroom educational team and delegate responsibilities to support their growth and professional development.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Facilitate learning across various environments and situations such as: communicating at eye level, sitting on the floor or at child-sized tables to engage with students, lifting a child in duress, offering a lap to a child in need.
  • Toileting is an integral aspect of the developmental learning process at the ECC. Educators need to be prepared to change diapers for all students. This includes lifting children onto a changing table or toilet seat as needed.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master’s Degree preferably in Early Childhood Education and 5 years’ experience as a head teacher in an early childhood setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Consistently demonstrate a friendly, positive attitude and professional behavior.
  • Excellent instructional skills.
  • Communicate positively with parents.
  • Excellent computer skills.


COMPENSATION: The salary range for this position is 38000-41000 commensurate with experience. Qualified candidates should submit a brief cover letter and a resume.
