Chief Operating Officer (COO)

Yeshivah of Flatbush is seeking an accomplished and visionary Chief Operating Officer (COO) to join its Executive Leadership Team. This senior leadership role offers the opportunity to oversee the operational infrastructure of one of Brooklyn's premier educational institutions and help shape its future growth, efficiency, and excellence.
The COO will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight across multiple campuses, ensuring that facilities, technology, safety, services, and infrastructure effectively support the school's mission, educational programs, and long-term objectives. The successful candidate will be a collaborative leader with exceptional operational expertise, strong financial acumen, and a proven ability to manage complex organizations and large-scale projects.

Direct Oversight: Director of Operations, Director of IT, Data Manager, and Security Team
Key Responsibilities
Executive Leadership & Strategic Planning
- Serve as a member of the Executive Leadership Team and contribute to institutional strategy, long-term planning, and operational decision-making.
- Develop and strengthen operational systems, procedures, service standards, accountability structures, budgets, staffing models, and vendor relationships.
- Provide executive leadership with clear communication regarding operational risks, project status, service issues, budget matters, and recommended solutions.
Capital Projects, Construction & Real Estate
- Lead planning and execution of construction, renovation, repair, and capital improvement projects.
- Manage project timelines, budgets, regulatory compliance, and operational continuity during construction activities.
- Serve as liaison with architects, contractors, engineers, consultants, and Real Estate Committee members.
- Partner with senior leadership on facilities planning, space utilization, enrollment growth considerations, and long-term campus development.
Campus Operations & Facilities Management
- Oversee all campus facilities to ensure they remain safe, clean, fully functional, and compliant with applicable regulations.
- Supervise maintenance, custodial operations, groundskeeping, preventive maintenance programs, inspections, and vendor services.
- Ensure campus readiness for educational programs, events, and daily operations.
- Coordinate responses to facilities emergencies, weather-related disruptions, and operational challenges.
Campus Safety, Security & Emergency Preparedness
- Direct campus security operations across all campuses.
- Oversee security vendors, staffing, training, access control systems, visitor management, surveillance systems, and emergency protocols.
- Serve as liaison with law enforcement, government agencies, and community partners.
- Maintain emergency preparedness plans, crisis response procedures, drills, and incident reporting systems.
- Support security-related grants and funding opportunities.
Technology, Data & Infrastructure
- Provide strategic oversight of technology infrastructure, network operations, and institutional systems.
- Supervise technology leadership and ensure effective project execution, user support, cybersecurity, and system reliability.
- Partner with leadership on technology planning, budgeting, vendor management, and infrastructure upgrades.
- Oversee data systems, reporting capabilities, data integrity, compliance, and operational analytics.
Campus Services, Events & Community Programs
- Oversee dining services, transportation, facility rentals, community programming, and special events.
- Ensure high-quality service delivery, operational coordination, and effective utilization of campus facilities.
- Support schoolwide programs, assemblies, parent events, and institutional initiatives.
Budget, Procurement & Vendor Management
- Develop and manage operational budgets in partnership with the CFO.
- Oversee procurement processes, vendor contracts, performance standards, renewals, and cost-control initiatives.
- Monitor operational expenditures and support capital planning and forecasting.
- Evaluate vendor performance and implement continuous improvement strategies.
Risk Management & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, fire, building, sanitation, transportation, food service, insurance, and accreditation requirements.
- Maintain permits, licenses, inspections, vendor documentation, and compliance records.
- Develop business continuity plans for facilities, technology, transportation, weather events, and other operational contingencies.
- Partner with leadership, legal counsel, and advisors to identify and mitigate organizational risk.
Leadership & Organizational Development
- Lead and mentor operational leaders and teams.
- Establish accountability systems, performance metrics, KPIs, dashboards, and reporting structures.
- Foster a culture of professionalism, responsiveness, collaboration, and service excellence.
- Lead cross-functional projects and continuous improvement initiatives that support institutional goals.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred in Business, Education, Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, Operations, Facilities Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive operational leadership experience.
- Experience managing facilities, security, maintenance, custodial operations, IT infrastructure, budgets, vendors, procurement, contracts, and capital projects.
- Strong understanding of building systems, safety and security protocols, transportation, food service operations, risk management, compliance, and operational reporting.
- Proven ability to lead teams, manage multiple complex projects, and drive measurable results.
- Strong financial management, budgeting, forecasting, and analytical skills.
- Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and leadership abilities.
- High level of integrity, discretion, strategic thinking, problem-solving ability, and commitment to organizational excellence.
