Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Controller to join our growing construction company. The ideal candidate will have strong construction accounting experience, a solid understanding of project-based financial reporting, and hands-on experience with AIA billing and the requisition process.

This role will be responsible for overseeing the accounting department, managing financial reporting, monitoring job costs, supporting project billing, and ensuring accurate and timely financial information for management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll coordination, reconciliations, and general ledger activity.
  • Prepare and review monthly financial statements, management reports, and project-based financial reporting.
  • Manage job costing, work-in-progress schedules, contract balances, change orders, retainage, and project profitability reporting.
  • Handle and review AIA billing, payment applications, and construction requisition submissions.
  • Coordinate with project managers, ownership, lenders, and vendors to ensure accurate billing, collections, and financial tracking.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and contractual requirements.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and year-end audit or tax preparation.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience as a Controller, Accounting Manager, or senior accounting professional in the construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of construction accounting, job costing, work-in-progress reporting, retainage, and contract billing.
  • Required experience with AIA billing and the construction requisition process.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and accounting priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong Excel and accounting software skills; experience with construction accounting systems is a plus.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and communication skills.

Position Details

This is a full-time position with an opportunity to take a key leadership role within the accounting and finance function of a growing construction company. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
