Position Summary

The Daycare Staff Member provides direct, hands-on care for infants and young children in Barkai Yeshivah's daycare program and reports to the Daycare Manager. This is an active childcare position requiring staff members to supervise and engage with children throughout the day while providing routine care, including feeding, diaper changing, comforting, and supporting naps and daily transitions. The role demands warmth, patience, communication, reliability, teamwork, and close attention to children's safety and well-being.

Responsibilities

Child Care & Supervision

  • Provide attentive, hands-on supervision of infants and young children throughout the day.
  • Change diapers and assist with feeding, bottles, meals, naps, and other daily care routines.
  • Comfort children and respond appropriately to their physical and emotional needs.
  • Maintain appropriate supervision and follow required staff-to-child ratios at all times.
  • Support age-appropriate play, activities, routines, and developmental engagement.

Safety & Well-Being

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and nurturing environment.
  • Follow daycare health, hygiene, sanitation, and safety procedures.
  • Immediately report injuries, incidents, safety concerns, or changes in a child's condition to the Daycare Manager.
  • Follow emergency procedures and all applicable school and daycare requirements.

Classroom Organization

  • Help prepare and maintain the daycare space throughout the day.
  • Keep toys, supplies, feeding areas, diapering areas, and children's belongings organized and sanitary.
  • Assist with setup, cleanup, and transitions between activities and routines.

Parent Communication

  • Interact with parents in a warm, respectful, and professional manner.
  • Provide appropriate routine updates as directed by the Daycare Manager.
  • Refer significant concerns, complaints, or sensitive matters to the Daycare Manager.

Teamwork

  • Work cooperatively with the Daycare Manager and other daycare staff to provide consistent care and maintain appropriate coverage.
  • Follow schedules, assignments, procedures, and direction from the Daycare Manager.
  • Communicate clearly with coworkers about children's needs, routines, and relevant information.
  • Assist other daycare staff as needed to maintain smooth daily operations.

Performance Expectations

  • Be dependable, punctual, attentive, and ready to actively care for children throughout the scheduled shift.
  • Maintain professional and appropriate interactions with children, parents, and coworkers.
  • Follow established procedures consistently and ask the Daycare Manager for guidance when needed.
  • Protect the privacy and confidentiality of children and families.

Qualifications

  • Genuine interest in caring for infants and young children.
  • Prior childcare, daycare, nursery, babysitting, or similar experience preferred.
  • Patient, dependable, responsible, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Able and willing to perform hands-on childcare duties, including diaper changing and feeding.
  • Able to follow health, safety, emergency, and supervisory procedures.
  • Must pass required background checks.
  • A college or advanced degree is not required for this position.

Work Environment & Availability

This is an active childcare role requiring regular movement throughout the daycare space and direct interaction with infants and young children. Staff must be able to perform the routine physical responsibilities of childcare and maintain attentive supervision throughout the workday. Scheduling and assignments are determined based on daycare enrollment, coverage needs, and program operations.

8am-12:30pm with other hours available as needed
