Job Description

Position: Direct Support Professional (DSP)

Organization: HASC Center

Job Summary:

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for assisting individuals in all HASC Center programs while following established treatment plans. Each program emphasizes community integration, health and safety, behavioral support, and fostering growth and independence.

DSPs are expected to maintain a professional, positive demeanor while encouraging individuals to pursue personal interests both at home and in the community. Due to the nature of the role, maintaining confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations is essential. Strong communication skills, sound judgment, and problem-solving abilities are key to success in this position. All DSPs are required to adhere to the Direct Support Professional Code of Ethics.


Education & Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities preferred
  • Valid driver’s license and a good driving record highly preferred
  • Ability to become certified in AMAP, Standard First Aid/CPR, and SCIP-R
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to supporting individuals with disabilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist individuals with activities of daily living (ADLs) and independent living skills as outlined in support plans
  • (e.g., grooming, toileting, showering, housekeeping, budgeting, shopping, etc.)
  • Provide full support, partial support, or verbal prompting, along with behavioral interventions as needed
  • Use a computer documentation program to chart outcomes and observations, including staff action plans, behavior data, sleep charts, and log books
  • Accompany individuals on community outings
  • Collaborate with team members to maintain a positive, supportive environment
  • Attend ongoing staff meetings and training to enhance knowledge of individuals and best practices
  • Complete all required training and maintain certifications and driving authorization
  • Transport individuals in agency vehicles, as needed
