About the Role
HASC Center is seeking a dedicated, experienced, and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to serve as our Residential Director of Nursing. In this leadership role, you will oversee the nursing team across multiple residences, ensuring the highest quality of person-centered healthcare for individuals with developmental disabilities.
You’ll be responsible for clinical oversight, staff management, and professional development, while ensuring compliance with all OPWDD, Department of Health (DOH), and HASC Center regulations. This is a key role for an RN who is not only clinically strong but also passionate about leadership and advocacy.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise, mentor, and guide a team of residential nurses
- Manage nursing schedules, assignments, and on-call coverage
- Conduct performance evaluations and foster professional growth
- Lead nursing team meetings and policy updates
- Train and onboard new nursing staff
Quality Assurance & Oversight
- Ensure care aligns with Life Plans, physician orders, and best practices
- Oversee AMAP medication administration policies and compliance
- Perform clinical assessments and site visits across residences
- Provide guidance to nurses and Direct Support Professionals on complex health issues
Regulatory Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure adherence to OPWDD, DOH, and Justice Center regulations
- Oversee incident reporting and investigations
- Prepare for and participate in audits, surveys, and reviews
- Maintain accurate and confidential clinical documentation
Collaboration & Communication
- Act as a liaison with families, guardians, and medical providers
- Partner with Residential Directors and department heads for integrated care
- Communicate significant health updates and emergencies in a timely manner
Qualifications & Skills
License & Education:
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State (required)
- BSN strongly preferred
Experience:
- 3–5 years of nursing experience (required)
- 2+ years working with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities in an OPWDD setting (required)
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience (preferred)
Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of OPWDD regulations, AMAP, and incident management
- Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to train, mentor, and support staff
- Highly organized with strong multitasking skills across multiple sites
- Proficiency with Electronic Health Records (EHR) and Microsoft Office
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between NYC residential sites
