About the Role
We are seeking a caring and dependable Special Education Teacher Assistant to support students during morning sessions in a school-based setting in Brooklyn. This role focuses on assisting the lead teacher, supporting students with special needs, and helping create a positive, structured, and supportive learning environment.
The ideal candidate is patient, attentive, and passionate about helping students succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the lead teacher in implementing daily lesson plans and classroom activities
- Provide individual and small-group support to students with special needs
- Help manage classroom routines and maintain a safe, supportive learning environment
- Support students with academic tasks, behavior management, and social skills development
- Help with classroom organization, materials preparation, and transitions between activities
- Observe student progress and communicate relevant information to the teacher
- Ensure student safety and follow school policies and procedures
- Provide encouragement, structure, and positive reinforcement to students
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience working with children, preferably in special education or a school setting
- Patience, reliability, and a strong sense of responsibility
- Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively with teachers and staff
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to remain calm, positive, and supportive in a classroom environment
- High school diploma required; relevant coursework or training in education is a plus
