Position Summary
The Shipping Manager is responsible for overseeing all daily shipping operations to ensure customer orders are picked, loaded, and delivered accurately and on time. This position manages the shipping team, coordinates truck routing, and works closely with warehouse staff, sales, and management to maintain an efficient and organized operation.
The Shipping Manager is expected to be actively involved in day-to-day warehouse operations, lead by example, and continuously improve productivity, accuracy, and customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and manage the daily activities of the shipping department.
- Lead and oversee a team of order pickers and loaders
- Ensure customer orders are released promptly and completed on schedule.
- Prioritize and schedule orders based on delivery requirements and customer needs.
- Verify that all orders are picked accurately and completely before loading.
- Oversee the loading of all company trucks to ensure safe, efficient, and accurate loading.
- Plan and optimize delivery routes to maximize efficiency while meeting delivery schedules.
- Communicate daily with drivers regarding routes, special delivery instructions, and customer requirements.
- Monitor shipping progress throughout the day and resolve delays or issues promptly.
- Ensure all shipping paperwork, invoices, and delivery documents are accurate before trucks depart.
- Maintain an organized, clean, and safe shipping and staging area.
- Train, coach, and evaluate shipping employees to improve productivity and accountability.
- Assist management with staffing, scheduling, and employee performance reviews.
- Monitor shipping performance through key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement continuous improvements.
Qualifications
- Previous warehouse and shipping management experience preferred.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced warehouse environment.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with truck routing and delivery scheduling.
- Basic computer skills and experience using warehouse management or inventory software.
