Job Description

Director of Human Resources 

Location: Lakewood, NJ or Brooklyn, NY 

The Director of Human Resources will lead and oversee a people-first strategy across multiple company locations, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, implementing HR policies, managing employee relations, overseeing talent acquisition and retention, ensuring compliance with labor laws, and fostering a values-driven, culturally aligned work environment. The Director of Human Resources reports to the Chief Human Resources Officer. 

 

Note: The company has a majority Orthodox Jewish workforce. Candidates must be comfortable working in a culturally observant environment that values family, modesty, and community. HR leadership must be sensitive to and supportive of religious observance, including holiday schedules, dietary laws, and gender considerations in the workplace. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Develop and execute HR strategies that align with the company's overall business goals. 
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to ensure HR initiatives support business objectives. 
  • Oversee HR functions across multiple locations, ensuring consistency in policies and processes. 
  • Participate in the analysis of HR metrics across sites to evaluate and enhance people strategies. 
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement innovative HR solutions. 
  • Act as a key advisor on employee relations issues, including performance management, disciplinary actions, and terminations. 
  • Foster a culture of inclusion, respect, and religious sensitivity across all locations. 
  • Establish clear and consistent communication channels with team members. 
  • Provide coaching to managers on performance evaluations, feedback, and goal setting. 
  • Coordinate or deliver training on company policies, compliance, and leadership development. 
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and company policies. 
  • Manage core people processes and strategies. 
  • Maintain confidentiality and sensitivity. 
  • Partner on recruitment, talent acquisition, and onboarding processes. 
  • Communicate HR strategies and initiatives effectively to all stakeholders. 
  • Function effectively in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment. 
  • Design and implement agile cross-training programs to support business continuity and employee growth. 
  • Support and enhance family-friendly policies, including a strong maternity leave program and flexible scheduling. 
  • Champion employee wellness and work-life balance initiatives aligned with community values. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field preferred. 
  • 5+ years of relevant HR experience in a multi-site or multi-state organization, including in management roles. 
  • Strong business acumen with broad HR expertise. 
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, with the aptitude to learn new programs. 
  • Independent and self-motivated. 
  • Innovative and detail-oriented professional with strong analytical and organizational skills. 
  • Strong proactive communication, both written and verbal. 
  • Excellent collaborative skills with team and clients with the ability to work remotely and autonomously. 
  • Superior time management with a proven ability to meet deadlines. 
  • Function well in a fast-paced and at times stressful environment. 
  • Demonstrate discretion, sensitivity, and ability to maintain confidentiality. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships and build a strong culture. 
  • Experience working in or with culturally observant communities is a plus. 
  • Ability to adapt HR practices to align with religious observance and community norms. 

Working Conditions 

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position and move about the work area intermittently throughout the workday. 
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office equipment. 
  • Ability to communicate and exchange information and ideas so others will understand. 
  • Ability to multi-task and work well in a high-pressured environment, subject to frequent interruptions. 
  • Must be respectful of religious observances, including early closures on Fridays and Jewish holidays.
