Key Responsibilities:

– Advocate for clients’ rights within the special education system, ensuring they receive all mandated services.

– Conduct legal research, prepare legal documents, and represent clients in administrative hearings and due process cases. – Collaborate with educators, therapists, and other professionals to develop individualized education plans (IEPs) that meet the unique needs of each client.

– Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal and state special education laws, regulations, and best practices.

– Build and maintain relationships with clients, their families, and community stakeholders to promote awareness and understanding of special education rights.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

– Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and admission to practice law in NY.

– Experience in special education law and advocacy, preferably within a nonprofit or legal aid environment preferred.

– Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with clients from diverse backgrounds. – Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail.

– Passion for social justice and a commitment to protecting the rights of individuals with disabilities.
