The US Private Equity & Mezzanine Team is a fund of funds team with an active co-investment program and direct secondary effort serving both affiliated and non-affiliated clients.

Position Overview

The role is within the Private Equity team, responsible for constructing and managing portfolios to achieve client goals for risk-adjusted returns in alternative asset classes. This includes sourcing North American-based managers in leveraged buyout (LBO), secondary, growth equity, direct lending, mezzanine, distressed, and infrastructure spaces, as well as evaluating new asset classes.

The Associate/Senior Associate will source and underwrite secondary opportunities and equity co-investments, working on asset allocation, portfolio construction, due diligence, and client communication. The role is a career track position but welcomes pre-MBA candidates seeking 2-3 years of private equity experience before pursuing an MBA.

Responsibilities

• Manage multiple aspects of the investment process for private asset funds, co-investments, and secondary investments, including sourcing, due diligence, financial modeling, investment recommendations, and presentations.
• Negotiate and execute transactions with a degree of independence.
• Collaborate with legal and operations teams to manage agreements, capital calls, and distributions.
• Monitor managers and portfolio investments, including writing reports and attending investor meetings.
• Maintain and develop relationships with general partners, agents, and intermediaries.
• Engage with other groups within Aegon AM, such as fixed income and alternative teams, to source and diligence investment opportunities.
• Travel for work as required.

Required Qualifications

• Associate: Minimum of 1 year of direct investment, secondary, lending, M&A, investment banking, financial due diligence, FP&A, or accounting experience with financial modeling and analysis.
• Senior Associate: Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Mathematics, or a related field.
• Strong analytical and financial modeling skills.
• Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
• Creative problem-solving abilities and interpersonal skills to interact with general partners, clients, and external parties.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with private equity secondary investments, direct investments, or co-investments.
• Knowledge of the private equity community.
• Bachelor’s degree from a top-tier institution with a strong GPA and leadership history.
• CFA, MBA, or CAIA preferred if undergraduate degree is not in Finance or Accounting.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Ranges:

• Senior Associate: $120,000–$140,000 annually
• Associate: $80,000–$100,000 annually
• Annual bonuses based on company and individual performance.
